(slow music) – You wanna make YouTube videos, but you're not sure if youwant to show your face.
Maybe you're just kind of shy.
Maybe you have concerns about privacy, or maybe you just don'thave a good camera, but you don't wanna miss out on this incredible opportunitythat is here on YouTube to make a living doingsomething fun and creative.
So you're wondering if there's any way that you can make YouTubevideos without being on camera.
So in this video, I'm gonna share with you several different waysthat you can make videos without being on camera.
And I'm also gonna give yousome ideas for specific types of videos that you could makewithout showing your face.
If you happen to be new tomy channel, nice to meet you.
My name is Gillian Perkins, it's great to have you here.
If you want to see morevideos in the future, all about working for yourselfand YouTube strategies, you can consider subscribing.
'Cause I make new videoslike that every single week.
Okay, with that being said, let's get on into howto make YouTube videos without showing your face.
There are four main ways you can do this.
First of all, you can make videos thataren't camera footage, but instead they are a recordingfrom your computer screen or even your phone screen.
This can be used for tech tutorials or other sorts of tutorials.
Anything where you can showwhat you're talking about on a screen, your video viewers willbe watching the screen of your computer or your smartphone, and you can record a voiceover to go along with it later on in this video, I'll talk about somespecific types of videos you could make this way and also about different kinds ofsoftware that you could use.
And I'll just let you knownow that there are some great free options for recording your screen to make this type of video.
Another way is with animation.
Now this can be quite complicated and it can require alot of technical skill.
If you're doing advanced 3Danimation sorts of things, but there's also some easy ways that you can create animation videos.
There are some programsyou can use to create simple animations, and thenthere's also some programs that you can use that will automatically create certain types of animations like that hand drawn on awhiteboard type animation.
Another way to create videoswithout showing your face is with stock footage.
So stock footage is video footage that other people have recordedand then is sold online.
And there are places whereyou can buy a subscription to get stock footage, or you can buy individualpieces of stock footage and you can string thesepieces of stock footage together to make your own video.
This can be done reallywell or really poorly later on when we talk aboutspecific types of videos you can make, I'll get into some of the waysyou could use stock footage to actually make a good video.
And then the fourth wayyou could make a video without being on camerais to use a camera, but not have you in the shot.
So instead of filming your face, filming you talking to the camera, you can film what you're talking about.
So if you're describinghow to do something, you could maybe show your hands doing it.
Or if you are talking aboutsomething or telling a story, you could be showingscenes from the story.
There are many differentthings that you could film that aren't you, that would help to visuallyget your point across.
Okay so those are the four main ways that you can make a videowithout being on camera, screen recording, animation, stock footage, or simply as shootingthings that aren't you.
But now let's talk aboutsome specific video ideas so that you can see howeach of these different techniques can be used.
The first big category is tutorials.
You can make tutorials about how to do all sorts of different things.
Three ideas to get youstarted cooking tutorials, art tutorials, tech tutorials, for each of these differenttypes of tutorials.
There are different techniques you could use to create the videos.
For example, if you were goingto create a cooking video, it would make a lot ofsense to use your camera, to shoot footage of you actually doing it.
And your face doesn't needto be in those shots at all.
There are, some really bigchannels here on YouTube and on other platforms online that do these cooking tutorialswith these top-down shots and you just see their hands actually doing the work of making the food.
And then there are otherchannels that just have closeup shots of each of the steps, even if they're from different angles.
And the same goes for art tutorials, you could just show yourhands actually doing the art either with a top-down shot or with these more detailed closeup shots.
And there really isn't areason to show your face unless you wanna talk to the camera.
Now, on the other hand, if you're interested inmaking tech tutorials, that's where that screenrecording technique can come in really handy.
You can use a screen recording software to record the screen on yourcomputer or on your phone.
And you can either record a voice over while you are actuallygoing through the tutorial, or you can record thewhole tutorial, edit it, and then add the voice over later on, just depending on whatthe tutorial is for.
If you're doing somethingthat is really quick and you can kind of talkthrough it in real time, then you might just record the voiceover while you're recording the screen.
But if you're doing something where you're going to have to click a few times and then wait a while, or you're doing some sort of process that just takes a lot of time, then you might wanna recordall of the screen footage first and then record the voiceover later on.
So there are threedifferent types of tutorials you could create withoutshowing your face, but it doesn't stop therereally in any category or niche you can think of.
If there's something that youcan instruct people how to do, then you can make a tutorial.
And most of the time it's better to show what you're talking aboutthan to just tell anyway, so your videos canactually be more helpful and better quality if it isn't mostly you talking to the camera, but instead we actuallysee you doing the thing that you're trying to explain.
The next big category of videos that you could createwithout showing your face is animations.
Now, animations can either be used to educate that could be tutorials, or it could be simply educational, informational type videos.
But of course, animation can also be used to entertain a few specific types of videos that you cancreate with animation, are educational whiteboard videos.
You also could create animated vlogs, or you could do animatedshort comedic sketches.
So let's talk about each of those.
First of all, you'veprobably seen videos before where there was a handdrawing on a whiteboard.
Normally this goes alongwith some sort of educational content, so the video creatoris explaining something.
Maybe they are recapping a book or teaching you a history lesson, or maybe they are giving you a tutorial.
There's actually two different ways that these whiteboard videos get created.
One way what's happening is exactly what it looks like is happening.
There's a camera pointed at a whiteboard and somebody's hand is there and they're drawing on that whiteboard.
Now this is a great technique and it can get really good results, but it's very time consumingbecause you have to do all of that drawing yourself.
And you have to draw for a lot longer than your video will be because then you're going to speed it up later on.
So if you're creating a five minute video, you might need to draw foran hour or even longer, the other way that peoplemake videos like this is with an automated software.
What they do is in the software.
They can actually choose images that they want a hand to draw, and they organize theimages on a timeline.
And then the hand pops up anddraws each of these images.
There's several differentsoftwares that can do this.
And some of them look reallytacky and not realistic.
And then other ones look really good.
The next animated sortof video you could create would be an animated vlog.
I'm sure that you haveseen plenty of vlog videos here on YouTube vlogbasically means video blog.
And it's where people aresharing their thoughts or ideas or bringing you alongthroughout their day.
And most of the time, these videos are mostlysomeone talking to a camera or you seeing themactually doing the things throughout their day.
But some people create these videos, but they make themselvesan animated character that is talking and doing the things and be quite entertainingand really fun to watch.
Creating these videos isgenerally pretty time consuming.
It does require a bit of technical skill.
So if you don't have anyexperience with animation, you're probably not gonna be able to go out and start makingthese videos right away.
But it's definitely something to consider if you're interested init and are willing to put in the work to learn those skills.
And then the third type ofanimated video that I'll mention here is you could createanimated short sketches.
So these are funny little animated films.
They can be really popularhere on YouTube, if done well, but they also can bepretty time consuming.
As I mentioned earlier on, there are some software optionsthat can allow you to create animations without a wholelot of technical skill and not having it be too time consuming, but generally with animation, the more time and effort you put into it, and the more advanced your skill are, the better the end result is going to be.
So you can make kind ofcheesy little animations with very little skill, but if you want them toactually look high quality or to do 3D animationor something like that, it is going to requirea lot of time and work.
Okay, so now let's move onand talk about the third, big category of videosthat you could create without showing your face.
And that is videos that aremade with stock footage.
Now of all the different types of videos that I'm talking about in this video.
This is probably the very easiest category because unlike tutorials, where you're having toactually shoot or record something yourself, or the animation videoswhere you're having to create this animationwith stock footage, the video footage isalready created for you, someone else shot itand you're just going to compile it creativelyinto a cohesive video.
And then you're going to record the audio that goes along with it.
You could use stockfootage to create all sorts of different videos, evenshort films or documentaries, really the sky's the limit here.
And the more time andeffort you put into it, the better your results are going to be.
But two easy kinds ofvideos that you could make are educational videosand inspirational videos.
So you've probably seenvideos here on YouTube that were educational.
Maybe they were teachingyou about a historical event or a scientific concept, but what you were seeing while you were listening to this lesson was all stock footage.
So the video creator justput together stock footage from stock footage websites to show you what they were talking about.
Now, a lot of the time, if you make a video with stock footage, what you see the visuals in the video won't be as helpful or asinstructive as they might be if you shot the footage yourself.
So it's gonna be more generic.
It'll more provide something to watch something to provide this visual distraction while people arelistening to the real content.
And then my final video ideais these inspirational videos made with stock footage.
This is the very easiest sortof video you could create without showing your face.
All you're going to dois you're going to record some sort of inspirational message.
I would recommend writingit out before you record it.
If you go this route andthen you're going to find complimentary stock footageto actually comprise the visual side of your video.
Now, because this videois only inspirational and it's not educational.
The footage here can be extremely generic.
You can find footage of allsorts of different things, nature, scenes, people doing things.
It could be an individualdoing something like writing.
It could be a crowd reallylike you can use almost any sort of footage in a video like this, and because you aren't tryingto really like illustrate anything with the footage.
You're just trying tocompliment what you're saying.
You have a lot of optionsand it's very flexible.
It won't require that much time or effort.
Okay, so let's recap real quick, eight different typesof videos you can make without showing your face cooking tutorials, arttutorials, tech tutorials, whiteboard animations, animated vlogs, or animated shorts, or you can use stock footageto make educational videos or inspirational videos.
So now you have a whole bunch of ideas for different types ofvideos that you could create here on YouTube without showing your face.
You're still going getmost of the benefits of it being a video creator here, you can still makemoney with these videos.
You can still use it asa fun creative hobby.
You can still have an impact on the world.
But you won't have to have your face on the internet and have thousands ofpeople staring at you, which you might wanna avoid.
Okay, so before we wrap this up, let's just talk about the equipment that you might need tocreate these different sorts of videos.
This can also help youto see how much these different types of videosmight cost to create.
'Cause some of them area bit more expensive.
So the first thing that you will need for pretty much any of these typesof videos is a microphone.
This is a really good microphone.
It's the RODE Procaster mic.
It's about $300, I believe you don't necessarilyneed to spend this much on a microphone.
Your cell phone honestly couldrecord your audio right now, or possibly you have some headphones or something with a built in microphone that you can get started with.
But if you want yourvideos to be great quality, even if you're not showing your face, then you will wanna makesure that your audio is really good quality.
Again, you don't have to spend this much, but you will want to invest a little bit into a mic that willactually sound really good.
Aside from the mic.
If you are creating videos where you are filming footage yourself, maybe footage of yourhands doing something, or maybe you are filmingvideo to illustrate what you're talking about.
Obviously you're gonna need a camera.
Now, maybe you can use your cell phone.
If you have a recent cell phone, a lot of the newest cell phones have really good cameras in them, but if your cell phonedoesn't have a great camera, then you might need to invest in a camera.
I would say that you can geta really good quality camera.
That will look great on YouTube, starting at around $700, maybe as low as 600, if you'respending less than about 600, most likely your cell phonesgonna be better quality.
So that's just something to keep in mind.
By the way, I will leave links down below to the equipment that I mentioned.
Some cameras and microphonesand stuff I would recommend.
And also to the softwarethat I'm gonna talk about in a minute.
Okay, so if you are using a camera and you're recording footage yourself, then a very necessarytool will be a tripod.
Especially if you are filmingyour hands, doing things, you're going to need apretty heavy duty tripod.
If you want to have the abilityto get those top-down shots because your camera is gonna have to be suspended horizontally.
So it can be looking downat what you're doing.
If you decided to go theanimated video route, you're not gonna need a camera.
You're not gonna need the tripod, but you will need some sort of software in order to create those animations.
So I'm gonna leave links down below to some different animation software you can use to create whiteboard videos or to create your own animatedvlogs or animated shorts.
And then finally, for almost all of thesedifferent types of videos, you will need a programto edit your videos in.
So there are some good free options.
And then there are also some paid options that you can purchase if youwant to have more features, if you are on a Mac using iMovie, honestly can be just fine, if you're getting started, if you're on a PC, then thereare a couple of free options.
There's one called Lightworks and there's also one called Shortcut again, links down below.
And then if you want toinvest a little bit more, my favorite video editingprogram is Adobe premier pro it's really heavy duty.
It's got all the featuresyou could ever need and link below if youwanna check that out.
But I would recommendstarting with something that is simpler and just gets the job done 'cause you don't wanna overwhelm yourself with too many features andoptions in your editing program.
Okay, so now you knowexactly how to make videos without being on camera.
And you have a bunch of ideas for different types ofvideos you could make.
So if the thing holding youback from starting your channel from starting making videos was that you didn't wanna be on camera.
Well, now you have no excuses.
So I am definitelyexpecting to see some videos from you in the very near future.
And if you are planningon starting making videos, then please comment down below.
Tell me what you'regonna make videos about.
Tell me which of thesetechniques you're gonna use, or if you're gonna just talk to a camera and if you're already making videos about one of these techniques, then you can share that as well.
Also, if you happen to have any questions about what I talked about in this video about how to make videoswithout showing your face, feel free to ask, cause I'm down there inthe comments all the time.
And I try to answer as manyof your guys' questions as I possibly can.
One last thing, once youdo start making videos, it is important that you know how to get views on those videos, because I don't wantyou to waste your time making videos that nobody watches.
So if you want to learnmore about how to get views here on YouTube, then check down below in the description 'cause I put together a free workshop, all about exactly that, how to get views onYouTube and in the workshop I share tactics that work, even if you don't haveany subscribers right now.
So I'm not just sharinglike how to optimize your channel that you already have, but how to get started from scratch.
Well, that is all for this video, but I hope I'll be seeing you next time.

Again, my name is Gillian Perkins.
Thank you so much for joining me today and hope to see you next time, bye.
(soft music) Another reason you might notwanna show your face on camera is because you have to puton makeup and do your hair and take off your pajamas andput on clothes too.
